Annual Harbor Cruise

Where: Pier 16, South Street Seaport - Lower Manhattan
Description
The JMU NYC and NJ Alumni Chapters have reserved CircleLine's premier ship, the ZEPHYR, for an evening of fun cruising around lower Manhattan on the night of Friday, July 23rd. Highlights of the tour around the harbor include the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge viewable from any of the boat's THREE observation decks!
In standard fashion, the entire cruise is an OPEN BAR (not to mention open dance floor!) premium beer, white wine and non-alcoholic beverages are all included in the open bar, while a cash bar is available for all other drinks. The boat boards at 8:45pm, so please arrive to the seaport NO LATER THAN 8:30pm. The boat will not wait. Upon disembarking shortly after 11pm, feel free to keep the party going a block away at Jeremy's Ale House on Front St. for the unofficial post-cruise party!
Also note that even though it's a JMU-organized event, anyone is welcome, so sign up now and invite all of your friends!
New York Red Bulls vs. Seattle Sounders - Alumni Outing

Come join fellow alumni and friends for a great evening out as the New York Red Bulls take on the Seattle Sounders in the new Red Bull Arena! We've scooped up 25 of the hottest tickets in town for a great discount rate of only $27 a piece! That's 25% off, and these aren't nosebleed seats either...only 15 or so rows from the field and the energy in this place is amazing! Tickets can be picked up at the arena at/near the Will Call area between Gates A and B. The new stadium is much more convenient to NYC or Hoboken residents (as opposed to their former home, Giants Stadium) and is merely a short PATH ride to the Harrison stop, just before Newark...you can't miss it.
For those coming from NYC (or that want to join in), at 4:30pm we will be having a meet-and-greet at Jack Demsey's on 33rd St, between Broadway and 5th Ave. We will leave the bar at 5:30pm SHARP and head to the 33rd St (Herald Square) PATH station in order to arrive at Red Bull Arena shortly before 7:00pm. Come join us for a wonderful night out at one of New York's newest sports venues, and we hope to see you there! There are only 25 tickets available and they're sure to go fast based on the feedback we've gotten... so act fast!
Mini-Opera Premiering JMU Graduate Students

Musical opera director Don Rierson has been asked to stage the premiere performance of a mini opera, called "Revue," by Jeremy Beck, whom JMU Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts George Sparks calls "a hot contemporary composer" and "an already risen and still rising" contemporary composer. Artists have already recorded CDs of Beck's work...

JMU Football @ Hofstra

For Those With Cars
The visitor parking/tailgating lot is on the east side of the stadium along Uniondale Ave just south of the Hempstead Turnpike (Rt 24). Join fellow Dukes at noon (or earlier, of course!) for pregame tailgating festivities. There is no official Duke Club tailgate for this game, so please bring your own food/drinks accordingly.
For Those Without Cars
Meet up with fellow Dukes at Penn Station (at the TGI Friday's) at 11am Saturday. From there, we will take the 11:25am train to Mineola (12pm arrival). If you have friends driving to the game, encourage them to pick you up from the station -- it's a short 5-10 minute drive from the stadium. If not, you could always just split a cab. Hofstra has a complimentary shuttle bus that runs to different parts of campus, but it only comes once every hour on the weekends.
Note: If you wish to depart at a different time, check the LIRR website for train schedules to either Mineola or Hempstead.
Tickets
Tickets can be ordered now through the JMU ticket office by calling 540-568-DUKE. Walk-up tickets can be purchased at the gate for $10 or $15.

The JMU NYC and NJ Alumni Chapters have reserved a limited number of tickets on CircleLine's premier ship, the ZEPHYR, to cruise around NYC on Friday August 21. The ship will be sailing up the Hudson and East Rivers in Manhattan, going by historic sites such as the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Colgate Clock. With 10 plasma screens, 3 observation decks, and DRINKS included, this is an event that you do not want to miss! The cruise will last 1.5 hours and bar is OPEN. The cruise boards at 7:45pm, please arrive by 7:30pm.
Your ticket will not only include an hour and a half open bar dance cruise, but also free admission and ten dollars worth of "Chits" at the South Street Seaport's Water Taxi Beach. Water Taxi Beach South Street Seaport is 18,000 square feet of fun, food/beverage, music, and dancing. Located along the water's edge on the north side of Pier 17, this Beach offers the most spectacular views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the East River in the city. JMU men's basketball faces William & Mary today at 6pm in the first round of the CAA Tournament. If they win, they will face George Mason at 6pm tomorrow (Saturday). We caught word that Foley's Pub will be showing the game. It's a last-minute informal gathering, but we wanted to give fans a heads up if they were hoping to catch the game with fellow Dukes!

Meet up with fellow JMU alumni at 5:15pm in front of Tracks Bar & Grill on the LIRR level of Penn Station. The train to Hempstead departs at 5:38pm, arriving at 6:36pm. The campus-bound complementary Hofstra bus departs from the Hempstead train station two minutes after arrival. (If the train is delayed, the arena is only a 5-minute cab ride away.) Tickets to the game can be purchased at the gate for $10 (reserved) or $15 (premium).
